Pedestrian Link Facilities in Tsz Wan Shan Bring Convenience to Residents2017-11-09
Construction of the Pedestrian Link Facilities in Tsz Wan Shan was completed recently, with PYE as the main contractor. The project, which is part of the MTR Corporation Limited (MTRC) Shatin to Central Link development, incorporated a series of improvement works to pedestrian facilities in the Tsz Wan Shan district. A total of 15 new pedestrian walkway systems, including 10 covered walkways, three footbridges, 21 lifts, four escalators, seven staircases and four travellators, were built to improve the pedestrian walking environment. As a result, residents can enjoy more convenient connections to the MTR Diamond Hill station, with barrier-free access for using railway services.
The project posed numerous challenges. Located uphill, Tsz Wan Shan is densely populated with busy traffic in close vicinity to residential blocks. Construction works had to be carried out on steep, narrow roads. The limited working space made construction of bridge decks and lifting escalators very difficult. During the construction period, temporary traffic arrangements were adopted and major lifting works over carriageways were carried out overnight in stages to minimise impact on traffic.
Concerted effort and effective communications between stakeholders helped us to overcome every single challenge and complete this highly complex project.
