PYE’s Volunteer Team cleans oil slick on Lamma Island

In June, large oil slicks were discovered in the sea near Shek Pai Wan on Lamma Island. Although the slicks had been cleared, residual oil had washed onto the beach.

In response, PYE’s Volunteer Team co-organised a trip with “Lamma Point” on 10 November to clean up the polluted beach. The group used a type of bio-degradable detergent to dissolve the greasy oil. Unexpected rain made the task more difficult, but it didn’t stop the volunteers from striving to complete their mission.

Since the area damaged by the pollution is extensive, this is by no means a one-off activity. Continuous cleaning is required. Our volunteer team has a long-term commitment to protecting local marine life and the environment in the future.
